Stern blasts Seattle over Sonics dealings

NBA commissioner David Stern warned on Thursday that if the SuperSonics leave Seattle he sees no way the league would ever return to the city. "I'd love to find a way to keep the team there," he said, "because if the team moves, there's not going to be another team there, not in any conceivable future plan that I could envision, and that would be too bad.

Nene injured thumb in loss to Celtics

Denver Nuggets power forward Nene is expected to miss up to six weeks because of a torn ligament in his left thumb. Nene was injured in Denver's 119-93 loss at Boston on Wednesday night. He saw a hand specialist in Denver on Thursday, and the team said Dr. Carlton Clinkscale will operate on the thumb Friday. The Nuggets, who have lost three straight games, have been hit hard by injuries for the third straight season.

Stuckey breaks hand in Pistons win

Detroit rookie Rodney Stuckey broke his left hand in the third quarter of the Pistons' 104-85 victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. The first-round pick from Eastern Washington had 10 points in 13 minutes before he was injured late in the third quarter. Jarvis Hayes scored 21 points against his former team to lead Detroit. Rasheed Wallace added 17 while Tayshaun Prince and Chauncey Billups each had 12.

Sonics’ Durant leaves arena on crutches

Kevin Durant, the second overall choice in the NBA draft, left the arena using crutches and was wearing a soft boot after spraining his left ankle late in the SuperSonics' exhibition game loss to Golden State on Tuesday night. A Sonics spokesman said in an e-mail late Tuesday that Durant will not travel to Portland for Wednesday night's game or to the team's preseason finale against Phoenix in Vancouver, British Columbia on Friday.

Magic defeat Yao-less China all-stars

Carlos Arroyo scored 25 points to help the Orlando Magic rout the China all-stars 116-92 in an exhibition game Thursday at the Chinese casino city of Macau, known as Asia's Las Vegas. The game might have been closer if China's roster included the country's two biggest stars: Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets and the newest Chinese NBA player: Yi Jianlian, a 7-foot power forward with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Woman, 23, files complaint against Kidd

A woman has accused NBA star Jason Kidd of harassing and groping her this month at a trendy Manhattan nightspot. Kidd spokesman Scott Miranda said the accusation was "a complete fabrication and it is sad that someone would make something like this up." The New York Police Department confirmed Wednesday the 23-year-old woman filed a complaint against another club-goer on Oct. 11, a day after she said she was harassed and groped her at the Tenjune club.
