Winehouse Hubby Busted for Allegedly Bribing a Bartender

Posted by blackhat on November 9th, 2007
Yesterday London police raided the home of Amy Winehouse, but not because of anything the troubled singer did. They were after her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who we often forget in lieu of all of Amy’s problems, is equally “troubled” if not a “singer.” Although the couple wasn’t at home at the time of the raid, police caught up to Fielder-Civil and arrested him on allegations that in British law are the equivalent of “obstruction of justice” here. Fielder-Civil is accused of attempting to bribe a bartender, James King, with $400,000 not to score more booze, but to withdraw a statement he made to police after Fielder-Civil and another friend assaulted King. The scuffle netted Winehouse’s hubby some “grievous bodily harm with intent” charges. According to her publicist, Winehouse was not arrested or charged, but the police were seen leaving her home with several boxes of evidence, which Amy better be praying was not paraphernalia, especially considering she finally got through the whole Norway pot ordeal and has been allowed back into the U.S. Hopefully this new development won’t prevent Amy from wowing audiences here with her woozy, slurred performances. Like any star-crossed lovers, or neo-Sids & Nancys, Winehouse told her husband/sparring partner Fielder-Civil, “Baby, I love you. I will be fine,” as the police ripped her man away.

O.J. back in court at Vegas hearing

Posted by blackhat on November 9th, 2007
O.J. Simpson returned to a courtroom Friday for the second day of a hearing to decide if he should stand trial for allegedly storming a hotel room with five men and robbing two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint. A justice of the peace is being asked to decide if Simpson, Clarence "C.J." Stewart and Charles Ehrlich should face 12 criminal charges in the Sept. 13 encounter, which came off during Thursday's testimony as a crime so ill planned that it almost became comical.
  • Amy Winehouse and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil were arrested yesterday in Norway for possession of seven grams of Cannabis. After paying a 500 Euro fine, Winehouse was released this morning and is scheduled to continue touring the country.
  • The opening act on Korn’s “Bitch! We Have a Problem” tour left the bill after one of its members got into a fight with Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer, who sustained injuries. The band, Droid, is also signed to Shaffer’s label Emotional Syphon.
  • Napster 4.0 has eliminated downloads from its service (and is phasing out its desktop client), instead making online libraries and playlists available. The service has also have added an automix Pandora-like feature which plays users songs based on their listening tastes.
  • Hugh Hefner has reportedly offered the cover of Playboy to Britney Spears — if she can knock off the antics. “I hope her personal life gets back on track,” said Hef. “If that happens, we’ll be happy to have her in the magazine.” Spears got off to a great start by running over a paparazzi photographer’s foot yesterday.
Universal Pictures and 25th Hour screenwriter David Benioff are getting to work on Last Days an untitled drama about the life of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Courtney Love, whose criteria when picking projects dealing with her dead husband’s legacy is usually incredibly stringent, will serve as executive producer. The script will adapt Charles Cross’ 2001 biography Heavier Than Heaven, which included accounts gleaned from Cobain’s unpublished journals as well as information from Cobain’s family and friends. This news comes nearly two weeks after About A Son — a Cobain documentary that utilizes interview excerpts — and Control, about the life and suicide of Joy Division’s Ian Curtis, hit theaters. We assume an Elliott Smith script is being Fed-Exed overnight to Paramount as we type. So far, music rights have not been secured, but with Love in the exec. producer’s chair, that shouldn’t be a problem. Casting hasn’t begun yet either, but we recommend this guy, considering he did such a great job the first time around.

MSG asks judge to reduce $11.6M award

Posted by blackhat on October 17th, 2007
Madison Square Garden and Knicks coach Isiah Thomas have asked a judge to reduce the $11.6 million in punitive damages a jury awarded to a former team executive after concluding she was sexually harassed and fired out of spite. Anucha Browne Sanders was awarded the damages this month after a three-week trial that portrayed the Knicks' offices as a dysfunctional clubhouse where Browne Sanders endured profanity-laced conversations with Thomas before he turned unwanted affection toward her.

Vick’s HS removes jersey from trophy case

Posted by blackhat on October 10th, 2007
Michael Vick's old jersey has been removed from his high school's trophy case because of his conviction on a federal dogfighting charge. The suspended NFL quarterback played for two seasons at Warwick High School from 1996-97 before going on to stardom Virginia Tech and being drafted first overall by the Atlanta Falcons in 2001. In August, he pleaded guilty to the federal charge, admitting that he helped kill six to eight dogs, and will be sentenced Dec. 10.
