America Votes Sanjaya Off Idol, Beyonce Being Sued And More

Posted by blackhat on April 19th, 2007
Sanjaya
  • The kid had a good run but it’s over now. Sanjaya Malakar was finally booted off American Idol last night when a record 38 million people voted. His post-elimination tears were touching and everything but we just couldn’t take him anymore and we’re psyched the madness is over.
  • Ooops. Some Beyonce-representing lawyer is about to lose his/her job. Des’ree is apparently suing B (her friends call her that) for not obtaining proper clearance before recording a cover of Des’ree’s song “Kissing You,” which appears as “Still In Love (Kissing You)” on the special edition release of Beyonce’s album B-Day. Des’ree is seeking $150,000 in damages, as well as distribution of the song, video and album to be stopped.
  • Remember last October when Two Gallants were involved in a terrifying incident in Houston in which a crazed cop tazered badmembers and their audience? Well the case against the band’s drummer (who allegedly interfered with a public servant) has finally been dropped. Congrats, guys.
  • James Brown’s elaborate funeral, plus the fact that his body wasn’t buried until three months after he died, equals one serious funeral bill. The trust handling James Brown’s estate owes more than $70,000 to the C.A. Reid Funeral Home in Augusta, Georgia.
  • Joanna Newsom is opening for Bjork on two of the Icelandic pop star’s upcoming US dates. Gloriously flamboyant performer Patrick Wolf will open for Amy Winehouse during her May US tour. Awe-some.
