Spurs sweep season series from Hornets

Tim Duncan scored 31 points, including his first 3-pointer of the season, to help the San Antonio Spurs beat the New Orleans Hornets 92-88 on Wednesday night. Brent Barry hit four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Spurs rally for their fifth straight victory. He finished with 15 points. Michael Finley added 13 and Manu Ginobili scored 12 for San Antonio. The Spurs swept their four-game series with the Hornets, who have lost two in a row and are 4-6 in their last 10.

Jazz outdo T-Wolves to capture Northwest title

Carlos Boozer had 25 and 11 rebounds and Mehmet Okur added 23 points and 12 boards to help the Utah Jazz beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-102 on Wednesday night and clinch the Northwest Division title. Okur, who rebounded from a stretch of four games where he averaged only eights points, made a 3-pointer with 2:58 remaining and then was fouled while attempting another with 33.8 seconds left.

Penner nets two goals as Ducks top ‘Hawks

Rookie Dustin Penner scored two goals and Ilya Bryzgalov made 20 saves to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-1 victory over the sputtering Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night. Corey Perry set up both of Penner's goals as first-place Anaheim reached 102 points, four ahead of both Dallas and San Jose in the Pacific Division. George Parros also scored for the Ducks, who won for the second time in five games after going 8-0-2 in their previous 10.

Knicks snap 4-game losing streak

Eddy Curry scored 13 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, Stephon Marbury rattled in a clinching 3-pointer with 8.5 seconds left, and the New York Knicks revived their playoff hopes Wednesday night by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 97-93 to snap a four-game losing streak. Marbury and Channing Frye each finished with 16 points for the Knicks, who won for just the second time in eight games.

Stumpel, Panthers nip Thrashers in SO

Jozef Stumpel scored the tying goal in the third period and notched the winner in the shootout, leading the Florida Panthers to a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Wednesday night. Bryan Allen also scored for the Panthers, who are hanging on to slim playoff hopes. Florida is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference and trails eighth-place Montreal by six points with five games left. The victory was only Florida's fourth in 18 overtimes this season.

Steinbrenner’s daughter files divorce papers

George Steinbrenner's daughter filed divorce papers this week against husband Steve Swindal, a move that appears to end his chance to take over as head of the New York Yankees. "I'm the Boss. I continue to be the Boss," Steinbrenner said Wednesday in a statement issued by spokesman Howard Rubenstein. "I have no intention of retiring, and my family runs the Yankees with me." In June 2005, Steinbrenner said Swindal eventually would succeed him as head of the Yankees.
