Arkansas gets permission to talk to Calipari

Arkansas has been granted permission to talk to Memphis coach John Calipari about replacing Stan Heath, who was fired Monday. Memphis spokesman Lamar Chance said on Saturday he didn't know whether Arkansas had contacted Calipari yet, but that permission had been granted. Calipari guided Memphis to the NCAA regional final for the second straight season. He received a contract extension through 2012 on Monday. Calipari is 181-63 in seven seasons at Memphis.

Lefty goes Southern for Champions Dinner

Phil Mickelson will be presiding over a Southern feast at the Masters champions dinner this year. The defending champion gets to select the menu for the annual Tuesday night dinner of past champions, and Lefty is making sure they won't leave the room on an empty stomach. The menu features southern fried chicken, baby back ribs, beef brisket and smoked sausage. If that's not enough, vanilla ice cream will be served for dessert.

Ex-Wildcat thinks Donovan ‘open’ to UKentucky job

Former Kentucky basketball star Richie Farmer says he spoke with Billy Donovan and suspects the Florida coach is "open" to considering the Wildcats job after the Final Four. Farmer said he called his former assistant coach, and the conversation was mostly about the Final Four, where defending champion Florida plays UCLA on Saturday. Farmer said the Kentucky job did come up, and he didn't make a hard sell. Farmer added that he would if asked by his alma mater.

Bucs’ RB charged with hitting pregnant woman

Buccaneers running back Lionel Gates was arrested and charged with hitting a pregnant woman in the face and pushing her into a wall during an argument. The 25-year-old player was being held Friday with no bond, jail records said. Gates kicked in the front door of Peggie Lavender's apartment Thursday night, destroyed two televisions and two doors, put a hole in the bedroom wall and assaulted her, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report said.

Mavs beat Bucks without Nowitzki

After the first 6-0 roadtrip ever, the Dallas Mavericks got home to set another franchise record - even without Dirk Nowitzki. With their star out after hurting his left ankle in the first half, Jason Terry had 27 points with a couple of key late baskets and the go-ahead free throw in the Mavericks' 105-103 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night for their 60th victory. It is the third time the Mavericks have won 60 games, all in the last five years.

Another double-double for Bosh

Chris Bosh became Toronto's career leader in double-doubles when he had 13 points and 17 rebounds in the Raptors' 96-83 victory Wednesday night that moved them ahead of the Miami Heat for third place in the Eastern Conference. Anthony Parker added 20 points for Raptors, who had six players score in double figures. Toronto ended a four-game losing streak to the Heat despite missing No. 1 pick Andrea Bargnani (appendectomy) and Jorge Garbajosa (left ankle surgery).
